Positive Affirmations: Our Mental Vitamins

Affirmations are the self-talk or statements that we either soliloquize quietly to ourselves or speak it aloud to strengthen our belief in it and inculcate it as a way of life.

Robin Sharma has said,” Everything is created twice, first in the mind then in Reality.” What a powerful message? I am saying powerful because the message has phenomenal gravity and immense power of attraction to open the door to anything achievable. Everything in life depends on how we harness our mind and thought. For instance: If one right from the morning keeps on chanting his plight and repeats throughout the day - Why this happens only with me? My life is only a struggle? I am not good enough - At some point one will convince his subconscious mind to believe that his life is mundane and meaningless. What a loss!

Not only adults but also the words used by parents for their kids have the power to decide the destiny of the child. If parents keep on negating and decimating their child, subtly they are conditioning and preparing the child to lead a mediocre life.  The child grows up to be someone with poor self-esteem, average human who never learns to push his boundary.

Humans have huge potential but at the same time you sow what you reap. Hence, we need to nourish our brain by feeding it constantly with positive thoughts and affirmations. Affirmations need not be too complicated; it can be as simple as “All is well” depicted in the movie 3 Idiots. There are numerous athletes, businessmen and successful people who vouch for the positive affirmations that has changed their lives like “I can do it”; “I am confident”. Psychologists use these affirmations to treat certain anxiety disorders and phobias -“I love meeting strangers”; “Relax”; “I am safe”- to mention a few.

The affirmations can be used flexibly to achieve smaller goals like quit smoking or lose weight; or for achieving the bigger goals like health, wealth and success. Mould it the way you want but the result is assured provided that there is consistency and effort in practicing it every single day. Say aloud/Repeat your affirmations (can be in front of the mirror) every day - write and speak even better! Use reminders on phones, sticky notes at prominent places or take help from family and friends. It has already been proved scientifically that this practice alters the brain conditioning and catapults one towards achieving one’s goal and who doesn’t want to be successful in life!

Paulo Coelho said, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. Trust who and what you are, remind yourself persistently about it; - your physical, mental and universal being will support you towards miracles to unfold.
