Purple Unicorns are those dream candidates who have the most coveted perfect , shining Resume.
Still the marriage doesn't happen. The mystical Unicorns ghosting from the interview or the first day of the job has become an expensive and troubling concern for any recruitment firm. What exactly is making these Unicorns mystically disapper? Is it a- need mismatch, over expectation on the either side , ambiguity in job posting , under compensation offered – or it's a confusing medley of all.
It's important to understand that a good candidate is simultaneously mulling over multiple offers , hence, the firms need to provide a compelling reason to join; but at the same time the firms should not rely on quick fix solutions like “ More compensation will resolve the Talent Problem”. Smart candidates contemplate beyond it.
If we look into the postings, sometimes they are too idealistic for which no ideal candidate exists. We often hear candidates whining “ when I don't meet all the qualifications, I am not qualified. When i meet all the qualifications, i am overqualified”. Result: the requirement hangs in balance. Thus, the companies need to be completely lucid in their postings so that the candidates can easily perceive Where and How they fit in the current job role.
No job is perfect and no candidate is ideal. It's important that both the company and the candidate acknowledge it and try to counter every potential downside with a much stronger positive. Make the candidate understand “ what's in it for me?” instead of posting first and praying later.
