Is the language Hindi dying?

English is fast pervading into every aspect of our life right from education to entertainment and office to home. English has become a status symbol .Modernity is reflected by how embellished and enriched is our English language. Speaking Hindi in public places , parties is considered low class . I remember someone complaining that her son used the word “ kura “ instead of garbage and she was abashed.
None of the countries abandon their mother tongue so apathetically as we have . English has its own role which is substantial. But taking the support system of our mother tongue will make it crippled and vanished in sometime.
Hindi is fast losing its sheen and soon, it will be diminished into a regional or rural language spoken by a handful people in some part of the country. Time has come that we take some steps to save the language from becoming extinct.
Pass mark in Hindi language should be made compulsory in all schools. Hindi should be fostered by our politicians and bollywood actors who have maximum impact on society. Steps like making Hindi an official language of United Nations would take the cause further.
It’s a part of our culture and tradition. Bountiful books and sahityas written in Hindi are gathering dust in libraries and book shelves. Our kids should also read and understand the epics and mythologies reading and hearing which we have grown up.
Hindi should not be subjected to be a functional language used solely for conversation but should look forward to enrich the language as we learn enthusiastically new vocabulary in English.
It requires lot of support and sustainment from the present generation. Hindi has numerous experiences to share. Please do justice to the language and give it its due share.
With love,
An English teacher.

Yes ur thoughts are absoultly true but at the same time.. it's too difficult to change this till we have a mass revlutionn..like how u mentioned to make hindi pass marks compulsory in all the states. But this needs a unified view in our contry itself ,, who are yet to wilingly accept as Hindi language. Till the time we Indians r not together it's difficult to expect and see a change in outside world..But at the same time, the way India is making the mark acoss the world, I think it's a good time to use the oppertunity to take our national language up and start expanding its horizon across the world.

Also try to add that we Indians are too defensive for our pride.. We are masters and agile enough to adopt the outside culture but little hazzy when we need to shodcase our things .. That has to be changed in order to make the world accept and repect one of the highest speaking language in the world

Many people like Bengalis, Tamils, Maharashtrians have preserved there language and are very proud of it. Hindi spoken is itself bastardized with ample amount of Urdu mixed. May be due to Islamic Influence.

No new writers are coming and most ppl dont know Hindi literature above Premchand and Dinkar.

I am a Bengali and I appeal to Hindi speaking ppl to preserve & flourish your mother tongue.

Regional Languages are safe but Hindi is not.

Save it

Pass marks in Hindi should be required across the nation. But that will only bring animosity towards Hindi unless the entire country realizes what is happening. Even the regional languages are not safe because they themselves try to get rid of their language and go for English. Take a look at Kashmir. I have a friend there who says that a child is outcasted if they speak only Kashmiri. Most of the youth cannot even write their language. We must create a revolution against English, then focus on making Hindi the language of science across the nation. Then only will there be actual unity in India (notice it would be odd to say Bharat). Our government has failed its people. We ourselves should start. The simplest solution would be to begin by sending children to Hindi/Regional Language schools. In the regional language schools, do not forget to teach them Hindi as well. That would be my first step, and I plan on doing so once my child is old enough for school.
